Meet a Child of Grace

Angel McIntoshAngel McIntosh

In 2010, 5 year old Angel McIntosh, came to Grace Centers of Hope with her mother Britney, her sister Alex and newborn brother Aiden, to be reunited with her father, Josh McIntosh. Josh was battling addictions to Marijuana and prescription drugs for years and is currently enlisted in our two-year Aftercare Program at Grace Centers of Hope.

Angel was born with Moderate Autism and her special needs are being met through our child-care department, as well as through local programs in Oakland County.

Britney, mother of three explains, “Without Grace Centers of Hope, our girls would not experience the joys of summer camp and activities during the summer and fall seasons. Here they get more social and educational opportunities to develop in a healthy and safe environment.”

Angel currently attends a Special Education Autism Class at WHRC in Pontiac. Angel and her siblings reside in their very own apartment in our main facility.

Robin Brewer

In the Fall of 2008, 3 year old Robin Brewer came to Grace Centers of Hope with her parents, Robert and Kim Brewer. Both parents were heavily addicted to crack cocaine for years, until finally seeking recovery and refuge at Grace Centers of Hope.

Robin Brewer"Since we've been here, God has really been blessing us" smiles Robert.  After having been together for seven years, Kim and Robert were married last November. Shortly thereafter, the entire Brewer family moved into one of Grace Center's newly refurbished rooms.  Yet, along with the many blessings, they have also faced some tough trials as well.

Their greatest trial occurred right after Robin's birth.  The Child Protective Services, aware of Kim and Roberts past crack cocaine addiction, threatened to remove Robin from Kim and Robert's custody.  After lots of prayer and help from the Grace Centers of Hope staff, Robin was able to return to her parents, and they now all reside together in one of the transitional homes in Little Grace Village, part of Grace Centers of Hope.

Robin is cared for by our full time childcare staff at our new Hands of Hope Childcare Center in downtown Pontiac.

Logan Spencer

In 2007, 7 year old Logan Spencer came to Grace Centers of Hope with his mother, 26 year old Lisa Hughes. Fighting addictions from Oxycontin to Heroin, Lisa was no stranger to a life of hardship and struggle. Even though she grew up in a healthy home and had a wonderful childhood, Lisa found herself battling depression during her high school years that led to stronger and stronger forms of self medication.  Her family soon intervened and convinced her to enter a rehabilitation facility.  However, her stint in rehab did not offer any lasting change.

Logan SpencerFinally, after many years of an on again off again relationship with drugs, Lisa finally heard about Grace Centers of Hope.

Since graduated from the One Year Life Skills Program, Lisa has this to say about life now. . .
"I have learned so much about myself and the world since coming to Grace Centers of Hope.  I have learned how to be a good mother, daughter, and friend.  My son is thriving.  My relationship with God has grown.  I have learned how to be thankful for what I have and, for the first time in my life, I am looking forward to the future."

Lisa and her son, Logan, are now participating in the After-Care Program and reside in Little Grace VillageNow working at a new job and spending time caring for her son, Lisa is embarking on a new chapter in her life; a chapter filled with hope and endless possibilities.

Logan currently attends a public school in Waterford and is excelling in the second grade!

Alex Windsor

In the fall of 2008, 6 year old Alex Windsor came to Grace Centers of Hope with her mother Sunshine Windsor  from North Carolina. At the time of her entry, Sunshine had been battling a debilitating 20-year addiction to pain medications, and after turning up unsuccessful using other rehabilitation programs she came to Grace Centers of Hope as her final place of refuge.

Alex WindsorSunshine found more than refuge at Grace Centers of Hope. She found lasting sobriety and she developed a relationship with God that was the final catalyst for the change she was so desperately seeking.

Sunshine admits, “Grace Centers of Hope has finally taught me the truth about God.  I realize that retaining my sobriety will be a life long journey.  But the difference in me now is that this time I have a relationship with God.  I am learning to find my strength and significance in Him.  I am experiencing a new joy and new life through Him
Without God in my life, I could never be the mother that Alex needs, or the woman that I have always strived to be."

Sunshine graduated from the One Year Program in August of 2009.  She now works as a women’s case manager, ministering the Gospel and providing counseling to the women residents at Grace Centers of Hope.
